AHRQ's National Program to reduce CAUTI in LTC

Angie SzumlinskiUncategorized

Research tells us that that the rate of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) in LTC residents is between 1- 3 million annually. In addition, re-hospitalizations from LTC are increasing, with UTIs being the second most common reason. The Agency on Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is funding a national program to reduce infections, specifically CAUTI in LTC. Spectrum Health Continuing Care was selected as the organizational lead to partner with facilities in Michigan.  What's in it for the facility? Quality improvement, alignment with CMS requirements, improved safety culture, and the prestige of being involved in a national improvement project.
