Another Opinion on Boosters

According to David Kessler, M.D., chief science officer of COVID response for the Department of Health and Human Services, the federal government is planning to have booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine available for American people if needed. “The increased age, waning antibodies over time and new variants increase the probability that booster doses may be needed,” Kessler told Congress.

Although this isn’t “news,” we have all raised the question of “how long will the vaccine work once fully vaccinated?” Honestly, no one really knows; vaccines are in the trial phase, thus under an EUA versus full FDA approval. That said, the vaccines have been credited for saving many lives over the past 6 months, and I for one trust the science.

With new variants being identified daily, it is going to be critical that we stay the course and look ahead. We can’t assume we are across the finish line, definitely in the home stretch but remember, we don’t know what we don’t know regarding this virus.

Stay well and stay tuned!
