Prevention of type 2 diabetes is a major public health priority and evidence supports the crucial role of diet in preventing diabetes. No surprise, the most recent studies indicate that decreasing carbohydrate intake may prove to assist in preventing this disease.

Given the benefits of low-carbohydrate diets for weight loss and controlling glycemic levels, it isn’t rocket science, right? Well, I for one am a “carboholic”, love carbs, never met a carb I didn’t like, well maybe lima beans, but other than that, seriously!

At the end of the day, diabetes is a horrible disease, isn’t it worth at least listening to the research, cutting back on a few carbs a day? Think about it, in this study, a low-carbohydrate diet led to larger reductions in HbA1c. If you are at high risk for diabetes, family history, elevated blood glucose levels and HbA1c, this eating plan may be for you! Stay well and stay informed!
