It is always encouraging to find educational tools that make learning easier to fit into a busy day, and geriatric fast facts is one of those resources. The John A. Hartford Foundation highlights Geriatric Fast Facts as an accessible online resource center created through the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program and the Geriatric Education Centers. It features concise, clinically relevant educational briefs and podcasts on key geriatric topics. These practical summaries of important health care issues are co-authored by multi-specialty teams, developed with ongoing guidance from geriatricians, and peer reviewed.

This is a pretty exciting resource. When you scroll through the topics, many are directly related to our world. Subjects such as Type II Diabetes Management, Pharmacologic Management of Dementia, Emergency Preparedness for Skilled Nursing Facilities, and many more make this a useful option for ongoing education. Each session includes an overview, assessment, objectives, references, and a wrap-up quiz to evaluate knowledge.

You also have many opportunities to build knowledge through HealthCap’s Resource & Education Center, where members can explore webinars, manuals, toolkits, policies, best practices, and outside resources. When resources like these are easy to access, it becomes much simpler to support continuing education in meaningful ways. Geriatric fast facts is another example of how practical, evidence-based education can help staff strengthen their understanding of geriatric care.

Are you taking advantage of these opportunities to improve resident care and outcomes? Are your staff aware of the many continuing education opportunities they can use on their own time? We should never stop learning. We should continue to grow our knowledge so we can provide practical, evidence-based care for our residents. Ongoing learning supports better resident care and can make a real difference in overall quality of life.

Stay well and stay informed!
