Medically Minded Hand Sanitizer– Nationwide Recall Expansion Due to The Presence of Undeclared Methanol

On May 25, 2021, the FDA published a recall of several lots of Medically Minded hand sanitizers due to undeclared Methanol found during lab testing. Young children who accidentally drink this product and individuals who ingest these products as an alcohol substitute are most at risk, although you could still be at risk just by using the sanitizer on your hands. Methanol poisoning can result in these symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Blurred vision
  • Permanent blindness
  • Seizures
  • Coma
  • Permanent damage to the nervous system
  • Death

The following lots are recalled, and all have a Best By Date of 5/21/22:

  • 8 oz. UPC 676753004208; Lot E332020, Lot E212020, and Lot E082020
  • 8.5 oz. UPC 676753004147; Lot E372020
  • 10 oz. UPC 676753004178 Lot GV4420205

There have been no reported adverse events from these particular products to date, but out of an abundance of caution the use of these lots should be discontinued. Please read the full press release from the FDA for more information.
