Study After Study

Did you ever wonder where scientists come up with the next topic for a “study?” Do you think that they lay awake at night and try to figure out what to study? Just curious because some of the studies I read, although interesting, have little relevance to my life in general. Not that studies aren’t important and not that researchers aren’t gifts from God but honestly, some seem to have little value other than providing some leisure reading opportunities and/or a treatment for insomnia.

Which brings up the subject of caffeine – I thought that was a great segue into this blog regarding studies! A study was published in the American Heart Association journal on December 21, 2022, “Coffee and Green Tea Consumption and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality Among People with and Without Hypertension.” I am a coffee drinker, so I was curious as to what this study was about as I honestly did not see the connection between coffee and green tea. At the end of the day there was no connection!

What the study found was that people who drank two or more cups of Joe in a day were twice as likely to die from cardiovascular disease if they also had severe hypertension; whereas, drinking only one cup of Joe OR UNLIMITED green tea did not increase risk. Hmmm, I guess I’m not clear on who decided what the variables were going to be in this study or what the goal was. Maybe I’m too cynical but I think there are better opportunities for funding studies that would have an impact on the average American, just saying. Stay well and stay informed!
