Diabetes management continues to evolve, and a recent study suggests that continuous glucose monitoring may benefit more people than previously thought. Researchers found that adults with type 2 diabetes who were not using insulin experienced substantially less hyperglycemia and a significant reduction in A1C when using CGM.

According to the study authors, these findings may help reshape diabetes management, expand treatment options, improve glucose and A1C management for clinicians, and reduce diabetes-related complications. You can read more about the study in the American Diabetes Association press release.

Technology is rapidly changing, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to diabetes technology. Insurance coverage can lag behind new devices, limiting availability. Residents may have varying levels of interest in using these tools, and staff may need additional education to become comfortable with emerging technology.

If your community is not ready to adopt this level of technology, that is okay. The important thing is to stay informed about emerging options. Talk with your medical director and consider meeting with residents and family members to discuss whether continuous glucose monitoring could be appropriate for individual care plans. You can also learn more about the research presented at the American Diabetes Association’s 2026 Scientific Sessions by viewing the conference session information.

Stay well and stay informed!
