There is a ton of research going on today regarding not only the current process for vaccines to be administered via muscular injection, but new ideas too and to date, the information is promising! Think about having a COVID-19 vaccine in a nasal application versus injected. That is what the scientists are studying today.

The science behind it is pretty complex but basically, “they have identified that humoral immune responses play a critical role in protecting individuals against SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly through the activity of neutralizing antibodies”(“IgA Dominates the Early Neutralizing Antibody Response to SARS-CoV-2” – Science Translational Magazine). See, pretty complex but the bottom line is that there is a future for this type of research and with a painless, easy to use vaccine, maybe more people would be willing to jump on board?

Let us ever be humbled by the pandemic of 2020. Let us never forget the loss of life and community isolation we suffered. Anything and everything we can do to protect ourselves from this type of crisis in the future should be embraced.

Stay well and stay tuned!
